Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. - Matthew 24:35 NIV
I often wonder if the disciples were quite prepared to hear the answers to the question they asked. For example, in response to Jesus' statement that the Temple would be destroyed, they asked when and what signs would precede his second coming. His answer of the apocalyptic end, I'm reasonably sure this was one of those times.
Jesus doesn't stop there, leaving them in despair but with assurance. Even though the sun and moon will become dark and the universe shaken to its core, He remains the same. For those who put their faith in Him, there is peace even among the chaos.
Whenever we go through desperate times, when our metaphorical earth is shaken, there is only one place to find peace. When we are fearful for our future, and our earthly existence threatened, be assured God remains faithful. God never deserts us but always gives us hope.
God, we confess you are the Alpha and Omega, you created all that is, and your reign is without end. Although sometimes things are tumultuous on this earth, you give us hope in this life and assurance for the eternal. Lord, we thank you for your love and compassion. Please help us to remember your promise when life becomes chaotic. Amen.
