“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10 NIV)
There are days when the world feels unsteady — when responsibilities pile up, when worries multiply, when the ground beneath our feet seems to shift. In those moments, we look instinctively for something solid, something trustworthy. Proverbs offers a surprising image: not a place, not a structure, but the name of the Lord as our strong tower.
In Scripture, a name is never just a word. It reveals character, identity, and reputation. So, calling upon the name of the Lord isn’t an incantation or a spiritual shortcut. It’s an act of trust rooted in the fullness of who God is — Creator, Protector, Provider, Savior. The “I AM” of Exodus 3:14, the God who is faithful, present, and unchanging.
When we “run to His name,” we’re running toward His character: His faithfulness that doesn’t waver, His mercy that doesn’t run out, His strength that doesn’t collapse under pressure. The righteous run because they know the One they’re running toward. They know His heart. They know His promises hold.
Maybe today you’re carrying something heavy. Maybe you’re trying to hold too much alone. This proverb invites you to run — not to your own solutions, not to your own strength, but to the God whose character is your refuge. Let His name — His very nature — be the tower that steadies and strengthens you.
God of strength and shelter, draw us toward Your name today. When we feel overwhelmed, teach us to run toward who You are. Let Your character be our refuge, Your faithfulness our safety, and Your love our peace. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Tim
