Trusting the Right Guide

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Last week, I took advantage of the beautiful stretch of fall weather to take our English Pointer, Bella, out for some walks at a local park. As a sporting dog, she loves to walk, and while content to walk on the wide paths, she is happiest to go off the beaten paths where there are a lot more things to sniff. With all the recently fallen leaves covering the trails, it was sometimes difficult for me to distinguish the path. I soon realized that it was not for Bella. Though she was on a long retractable lead, she never wandered but kept to the trail. I could trust her to lead the way when I was in doubt.

Reflecting on today’s verses, I am reminded that we are to trust God through life's uncertainties, just as I trusted Bella to help me when the trail was hard to see. When the path ahead seems obscured and unclear, God sees the way and leads us faithfully. Just as I trusted Bella to navigate the hidden trails, we are called to trust God to guide us through life's uncertainties. Even when our path seems obscured and unclear, God sees the way and leads us faithfully. When we trust Him, we find the journey easier.

I could have been stubborn and forced Bella to go the way I thought was right, but I would have gotten hopelessly lost in doing so. Trusting God is challenging for most of us because it means relinquishing our will, humbling ourselves, and submitting to His guidance. However, when we do so, we experience the peace and assurance that come from knowing we are being led by the One who sees the entire path ahead.

By trusting God, our right guide, we can navigate life's trails with confidence and peace.

Father God, we thank You for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We confess we often insist on going our own way until we discover we are hopelessly lost. Help us remember there is an easier way—Your way. Grant us the wisdom of humility to submit ourselves to You and trust Your guidance. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
