Unfortunate Choices

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. - Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 NKJV

Okay, I'm going to ask a loaded question, have you ever made a poor decision? Of course, we all have. Sometimes, the consequences of those decisions may have been minor, others disastrous. But, looking back on those times, we can acknowledge our lapses in judgment. We may have been caught up in the heat of the moment, influenced by peer pressure, or just didn't think at all. But for some reason, at that moment in that place, it seemed like a good idea.

My point is we humans sometimes make unfortunate decisions because of urges, impulses, and lack of understanding. But when we pause and consider the ramifications of our actions, we might well make better choices. Better yet, it is to seek God's guidance. He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit precisely for those occasions. Decisions we make which are grounded in the Word, prayed over, and directed by the Holy Spirit, will never be unfortunate. In humbling ourselves and admitting that we are prone to poor choices, God will help us make the right ones.

Lord of good paths, we thank you for equipping us with all we need to make the right choices. We confess we do not always consult you, and when we do, the results of our actions become harmful. Forgive us those times, and help us remember you are always available to help us and place our trust in you. Direct our paths today in the ways of righteousness. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
