“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:38-39 NLT
As we talk with those close to us, we hear their journeys—stories of pain, resilience, and perseverance. Illness in all its forms, people in rehab and recovery, those battling addiction, and others facing injustice and oppression. Some are overwhelmed by financial struggles, uncertainty, or grief. Perhaps we are also walking through one of these trials ourselves.
Paul’s words in today’s passage carry profound conviction. He was not unfamiliar with suffering—beaten, imprisoned, and persecuted, yet his faith remained unwavering. He understood what it meant to endure hardships, but more importantly, he knew the one truth that sustained him: nothing can separate us from the love of God.
He lists everything that might threaten to drive a wedge between us and God’s love:
Neither death nor life – Whether we stand in grief or celebrate life’s joys, God’s love remains constant.
Neither angels nor demons – In the midst of spiritual battles, doubt, or temptation, God is unwavering.
Neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – The weight of anxiety, the unpredictability of life—none of it removes us from His care.
Not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love – No darkness, no brokenness, no sin is greater than His grace.
No power in the sky above or in the earth below – Natural disasters, political turmoil, personal loss—God’s love is unshaken by any force.
Nothing in all creation – This is the final assurance: nothing, absolutely nothing, can remove us from the embrace of Christ.
When paired with John 3:16-17, we see that this love is not passive—it is active, intentional, and sacrificial. God’s love did not wait for perfection; He sent His Son to save, not condemn. His passion is for the weary, the broken, the searching, and the found.
As we hold onto this assurance—that nothing can separate us from God’s love—we are also called to share it. There are people in our lives and communities who are walking through struggles, wondering if anyone sees them or cares. Some feel distant from God or uncertain about faith.
But we carry the incredible news that His love is for them, too. Through Jesus, they can have a personal relationship with God, not one built on fear or uncertainty but on grace and redemption.
Let’s be the ones who speak life and hope into the hearts around us. Whether through conversation, kindness, or simply being present, we can reflect the love of Christ. And when the opportunity arises, may we boldly share this truth: There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God, and that love is waiting for all who seek Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unshakable love that holds us in every season. Thank You for sending Jesus, not to condemn but to save. Help us rest in Your love and share it with others. Open doors for encouragement and reflection of Your grace. May more hearts come to know You personally and the immeasurable depth of Your love. We surrender our fears and burdens to You, trusting that You walk with us always. In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
