Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalms 9:10 (NIV)
This morning, I noticed our thermostat was offline from the house network—odd, I think. Next, I turned on my computer and checked my iPhone—”No network found.” Trudging downstairs to the router, I realized there was no power to the router, so no internet. I won’t bother you with the details–except it means calling an electrician later this morning. My point is that I trusted something that I usually hold as being very dependable and consistent, but it was not.
Last week, a much larger scale happened when the CrowdStrike software update caused failures in Microsoft systems. This glitch affected many industries, including technology, finance, healthcare, and government. Flights were canceled, surgeries postponed, and businesses closed until the software update was released.
As stable and reliable as we think our manmade systems are, they are still fallible. There is only one utterly trustworthy entity, the Lord. Even when we doubt He is answering our prayers because He doesn’t answer the way we want or in the timing we desire, He is working on a better alternate solution.
The psalmist, David, reminds us, “The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” (v. 7-9)
The Lord rules with consistency, sustainability, and justice. Those who trust Him–for He is trustworthy–will never be disappointed.
In moments of technological disruption or personal uncertainty, we often realize the limitations of our manufactured systems. The thermostat that fails, the internet connection that drops, or the software glitch that impacts entire industries reminds us that our trust in these systems can be misplaced.
Gracious Father,
We come before You, acknowledging that our trust in earthly things can waver. We place our faith in systems, devices, and human solutions only to find them falter. Yet, amid these uncertainties, we gaze on You—the unchanging, unwavering God.
You reign forever, seated on a throne of righteousness and justice. Your judgments are perfect, and Your ways are beyond our understanding. When our artificial constructs fail, You remain our refuge. In times of trouble, You are our stronghold, our shelter from life’s storms.
Help us remember that even when our prayers seem unanswered or our circumstances perplexing, You are at work. Your alternate solutions may not align with our expectations but are always for our ultimate good. Teach us to trust You more deeply, knowing that You have never forsaken those who seek You.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
