Untroubled Hearts

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." John 14:1 NIV

As we look around at our world, we find many things to trouble our hearts. Mass shootings occur on a near-daily basis. Our nation seeks to deal with rampant inflation as it walks on a tightrope of domestic terror and global war. Add to all that our personal struggles.

Yet, God's Word assures us we don't need to fear. Our hearts don't need to be troubled. We can do this because our hope is not grounded on the earth but is in heaven. God, who created heaven and earth, is in charge. Yes, there will be troubles, but the light of God's love drives out the despair of darkness. Through Jesus Christ, we find the balm to soothe our troubled hearts.

Being untroubled doesn't mean we need to be content. God is not telling us to bury our heads in the sand. On the contrary, as Christ's followers, we must stand against wickedness in all its forms. Foremost we need to pray and ask for God's guidance. But we also must protest, petition, vote, and use our voices to speak out against the oppression of evil.

Almighty Father, we give thanks and praise for your grace. Amid evil, you sent Christ to deliver us. In his atoning blood, he offers us freedom. Through him, we can have untroubled hearts. Grant us boldness in bringing your light into darkness and the courage to stand against evil. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor TIm
