Vine and Branches

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5 NIV

Once the temperatures begin to warm in the Spring, we begin to venture outdoors again. We notice the dormant grass start to green, and the bulbs push through the earth. We also see all the downed branches. Weakened, to begin with, they failed to endure the harsh cold and bitter winds of Winter. Yet, those same branches were healthy and budding with leaves at some point.

Anytime we become separated branches, we cannot live, much less flourish; even connected to the vine, we face risks to our spiritual health. Temptation and sin serve as constant threats. To thrive, we need spiritual nourishment from the vine, which is Jesus Christ. When we worship, take communion, study God's word, and pray, we absorb the strength we need to flourish.

God, we thank you for the spiritual nourishment found in Jesus Christ. Please help us remain a living part of your vine. Refresh and renew us in Spirit to carry your message of hope into the world. Let others see in us the fruit of your love, and may it bring about honor and glory for you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
