Waiting on the Promise

“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.’” — Jeremiah 33:14 (NIV)

Have you ever received a promise without a clear timeline? Maybe a supervisor assured you of a promotion once certain conditions were met, or a friend promised to visit “someday.” The waiting can feel endless, and uncertainty can test our patience.

In today’s verse, Jeremiah speaks to a people who had been waiting for generations. Israel and Judah were weary, living through exile and hardship, yet God reminded them that His promise was not forgotten.

The “good promise” was the assurance of restoration, of a future shaped by His faithfulness. Historically, this pointed toward the coming of the Messiah, the One who would fulfill God’s covenant love in ways beyond their imagination.

We, too live in a season of waiting. Christ has come, and yet we await His return, the full completion of God’s promises. Just as Israel held onto hope in the midst of uncertainty, we are invited to trust that God’s timing is perfect. His promises are not vague wishes—they are sure, even if the fulfillment feels delayed. And our waiting is not idle; it is active—filled with prayer, service, and trust as God shapes us in holiness.

So, today, let us lean into hope. The waiting is not wasted. God is at work even now, shaping us, preparing us, and reminding us that His promises never fail.

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness across generations. Teach us to wait with trust and hope, knowing that Your promises are sure. Strengthen us in seasons of uncertainty and remind us that Christ has come and will come again. Amen.

Peace & Grace,

Pastor Tim
