Walking in the Light

Writer: timothyrsoutherntimothyrsouthern

But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7 NRSV

Pretty soon, on November 7th, we change the time on our clocks again -- setting them back an hour. Shortly after, we notice the shortness of the days. Unless we make a point of going out during those few short hours of daylight, we may miss the sun entirely. During this time, many folks suffer from seasonal affective disorder, feeling depressed and blue. However, when we go outside, it is pure joy to feel the sunshine on our faces and soak up the heat of the sun. Even on those cold, bracing days, the light of the sun revives us. If you share this walk with others, it’s a bonus.

As Christ’s followers, we are to walk in the same light of God that he did. We are not on this journey alone but in fellowship with Christ and each other. We not only bask in God’s light, but it has a spiritual, medicinal value; the blood of Jesus is our vitamin D. His light drives away the darkness of sin and revives us. We are constantly renewed, rejuvenated, and refreshed.

God, of light, we give thanks for your care. When it seems like darkness is closing in, we only need to step into your light to feel revived and refreshed. We give you thanks for the fellowship found in Jesus and each other. Please help us as we walk in your light. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
