Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are renewed day by day. - 2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV
Truth time, I can be pretty content never going in the ocean. Perhaps that is a funny thing to say considering for close to 40 years, we have lived near the Atlantic ocean. I do, however, like to watch the sea. Looking out over the water and observing the endless lapping of the waves on the shore is quite soothing. There are times, though, during bad weather, when the water can be very rough, the waves heighten, becoming harsh and cold. As they crash on the shore, their power erodes the coast. Then, following the storm, the sea settles, the tall white caps replaced by the gentle lapping waves.
Our lives are like the shoreline. The waves, usually gentle, nevertheless carry out to the sea of time a part of us. As storms come, we may notice a speeding up of the process. Like the waves rolling up on the beaches of our lives is the renewal of the Holy Spirit. Yes, there will be the stormy days and choppy waters; they cannot be helped; that is life. However, like the consistency of the waves, God is always with us. In the calm and the storm, he gives us strength.
Awesome God, of the waves and our lives, we praise your name. We give you thanks for each day you give us. You continually renew our souls with your Holy Spirit. Lord, help us to use the gift of this day and all our days in your service. Make us what you will. Do with us what you will. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
