We Are Sent

"Jesus said to them again, 'Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.'" — John 20:21 (NRSV)

Locked doors, shaken hearts, and hushed fears marked that first Easter evening. The disciples didn’t rush into the world with confidence—they were hiding. And yet, into that fearful space, Jesus came. His first word wasn’t a command. It was peace.

Jesus spoke peace first to their fear, repeating words of comfort, and then gave them purpose: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” That sending wasn’t abstract. It was the continuation of a divine pattern—God sent the Son, the Son commissioned his followers with peace and the breath of the Spirit, and now, we are sent—empowered to continue that divine mission.

We are sent not randomly, but intentionally.

We are sent not empty-handed, but with peace.

We are sent not alone, but by One who knows the way.

Much like a letter is written with intention and mailed with care, we go into the world bearing a message that can heal. We’re called to deliver the peace of Christ to a fractured world—with gentleness, boldness, and compassion. Every conversation, every act of kindness, every shared truth is part of our mission.

So today, take heart. Remember—we don’t simply enter the day; we are sent into it.

Triune God, thank you for being the One who sends. You sent Jesus into a hurting world to bring healing. You sent the Spirit into fearful lives to bring courage. And today, you send us—messengers of peace and bearers of your love.  Give us the grace to walk through locked doors with hope. Fill our words with mercy, and our steps with purpose.  May we never forget, we are sent, and you go with us.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Peace & Grace

Pastor Tim
