A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Luke 6:45 NIV
You've heard the expression, "you are what you eat." Meaning if you eat good stuff, you're likely to have better health than if you eat lots of sweets and greasy foods. We need to be conscious of the food we put in our bodies, focusing on nutrition instead of empty calories.
We also need to be spiritually aware of what we are putting in our souls. If we never go to church, pray, read our Bibles, and commune with God, we have nothing good going in. We're getting no nutrition. However, there's an endless supply of bad pouring in. The media feeds us a steady stream of despair and heartbreak. Also, we always have temptation lurking ready to provide us with a few empty calories of sin.
Whatever we put into our souls is what comes out. When we put goodly (Godly) things in, our words and actions reflect that goodness. But, if we have a steady diet of carnality, what comes out is venom, all the anger and hurt festering inside.
God, help us today to fill our bodies with your goodness. Please give us the strength to stand against evil. Purify our hearts that we may live out your good news in this world of sin. Let what emanates from our hearts be your glory. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
