What Child Is This?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 ESV

When you hold a newborn child, you are flooded with emotions; love, joy, wonder, awe, nervousness, and concern. As parents, if you haven't felt it yet, you will also experience the weight of this responsibility. Your mind may race ahead to what kind of child this will be and everything they will accomplish.

Imagine Mary holding Jesus; Joseph looking on. They must have experienced those same emotions. But it had been predicted long ago, who this child was, the Son of the Most High. While a human baby born of an earthly mother and experiencing all human emotions, this baby was also the divine offspring of our Heavenly Father. While he came with many titles, he came with one objective to offer us salvation, bringing light and life into the darkness.

Heavenly Father, we give thanks for your love in sending your Son to save us from sin. Let each of us remember this great love and seek to live lives worthy of it. May we share the reason for Christmas, not only this day but every day of our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
