When I Am Afraid...

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalms 56:3 NIV

Psalm 56 contains the note, a song of when the Philistines captured David at Gath. While the provides the historical context of the level of fear David experienced in being held captive by sworn enemies, these words could easily describe our experiences and prayers today, "Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack. My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me." (Ps 56:1‭-‬2)

Today’s question is when we are afraid in whom, or what, do we place our trust? When faced with constant bombardment by earthly and spiritual enemies, God is the only true place of refuge. There is no substitute! We cannot place our trust in other persons -- we are all fallible, philosophy -- they are man's thoughts, nor drugs or alcohol -- these only lead to more heartache. God, on the other hand, created us and, in his grace, offers redemption.

God, in you only, we place our trust. There is none other besides you who can defeat the enemy. We confess at times, our faith falters. Forgive us; we pray and help us in our time of doubt. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
