“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5
Oh boy! If there ever was a verse for the times, this is it. We are constantly bombarded by foolishness from all directions with reason in apparent absence. It is difficult sometimes to divine the truth, and sadly we all too frequently get swept up in the madness.
In His grace, God offers a path through the lunacy of this world, the gift of wisdom. He doesn't think we're weak or silly or hold it against us because we lack understanding. No, he desires to give freely as a loving parent gives to their child. We only need to ask.
In addition to praying for ourselves, we also need to pray for wisdom for others, including our leaders -- even those we may not care for. Paul writes, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (1 Timothy 2:1-2, emphasis mine)
Almighty God, our precious and loving parent, we give you thanks for your grace. Amid the madness of the times, you offer us wisdom to navigate the seeming insanity. We confess we get caught up in what the “experts” in this world have to say without first asking for your wisdom. God, we ask you to bless us with wisdom right now. Not just for ourselves but all people and most especially our leaders. Renew in us your Holy Spirit as our guide. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Blessings!
Pastor Tim
