"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." Romans 8:26 NIV
There are times in life when we have trouble grasping our feelings. Concerned friends may ask, "How are you?" We want to answer but are overwhelmed by the emotions tearing us apart. We have people who love us and want to listen and help, but we cannot formulate the words.
However, there is comfort in knowing that our prayers are still known when we can't put into words our anguish. The Holy Spirit that dwells within us understands our pain better than ourselves. In the Spirit’s empathy, it intercedes for us, translating our mere groans to God's compassionate and loving ears.
Loving God, we come before you in times of trouble, not knowing what to say. No words are sufficient to express our pain. We thank the Holy Spirit that carries our wordless groans to you. In your mercy and compassion, you hear us and send us the comfort and strength we need. Father, help us face our struggles with the confidence that you always listen to and answer our prayers. Through your Son Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
