“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” — Acts 20:24 (NLT)
Have you ever watched Mission: Impossible? Each episode or film begins the same way: an agent receives a message—“Your mission, should you choose to accept it…” The task is daunting, the stakes are high, and the message self-destructs in five seconds.
But the agent always accepts. The mission—however improbable—is always possible.
As followers of Christ, we too receive a mission. As His beloved, we are entrusted as agents of grace. Not assigned through a self-destructing device, but etched into the fabric of grace and sealed by the Spirit. And unlike a covert operation, our assignment isn’t meant to be secret—it’s meant to be shared.
The Apostle Paul frames his life through this very lens: “My life is worth nothing to me unless…” That’s mission language. Urgent. Purposeful. Non-negotiable. He doesn’t serve to preserve his comfort—he lives to complete his commission: telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
This is the believer’s calling:
Not a side project.
Not extracurricular.
But the very reason we are still here.
Accepting the mission will involve cost, time, and energy. There will be times of risk and danger. But it will also include wonder and transformation as God’s grace and fuller purpose is revealed through your faithfulness.
You are not the audience of this faith—you are an agent of it.
So, here’s your briefing: Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Proclaim grace. Live the Good News. Finish the work entrusted to you by the Lord Jesus. This message won’t self-destruct—but it might just spark resurrection in someone else.
Jesus, you have entrusted us with a holy mission—to carry your grace into a hurting world. Stir our hearts with the urgency Paul knew, not to preserve our comfort, but to fulfill your calling with faith and love. Strengthen us for the work ahead. Let our lives proclaim your goodness, not in word alone, but in every act of compassion and courage. May we not shrink from the task, but step forward, knowing you go with us. And may your Spirit guide us until the mission is complete and your name is known in every heart. We accept the mission. In your name, Amen.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Tim
