Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55:7 NIV
People may sometimes feel the sins they've committed are too great for God to forgive. However, today's verse is a direct call to those in doubt. Think of the most wicked crimes, murderers, rapists, thieves, whatever; if the soul turns away from sin to the Lord, will forgive them. That's a certain promise!
Besides the wicked, another group is mentioned—those with sinful thoughts—thoughts in opposition to the mind of Christ. It is a daily fight to keep our minds pure and charitable. But, again, we are not left bereft of hope, but with the promise, if we earnestly repent and seek change, we are freely pardoned.
God is willing to forgive a lot simply because of his love for us. He stands ready, but that is contingent on one thing, us. We must acknowledge our sin, turn away from our wickedness and unrighteousness, and turn to God.
Compassionate God, we give thanks for your mercy. Thank you for your Son Jesus Christ, who died for our sins that we may experience redemption. Thank you for your forgiveness. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that directs us away from wickedness and unrighteousness. Grant us the strength to reject sin, and when we don't, the wisdom to turn to you. Through the transformative power of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
