I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. Psalms 9:1 NIV
Happy Thanksgiving! For many, today this is a day filled with family, friends, and football. We share stories, we laugh, and we eat. These are all good things, but let's recognize the day's purpose in our celebration. Remembering to give God, the source of all good and perfect gifts, thanks for all our blessings.
Not all though enjoy the "traditional" Thanksgiving experience. Today many in our nation are alone and without. Some are forgotten, the elderly, the migrant, and the prisoner. Yet others are estranged from their families. Still, others are scraping by and forced to live on the streets from economic necessity—some cope with severe medical and psychological problems, and others with addiction. Yet, when you talk with these brothers and sisters, you will find some of the most genuinely thankful people: grateful that their daily needs are met, a warm meal, clothing, and a place to sleep, whether a bed in the shelter or a tent.
So, as we give our thanks today, do so for not only the gifts God has given to each of us but the bountiful gifts he gives to all of us. May we also reflect on how we can be the hands and feet of Christ? How can we share our bountiful gifts? There is much to be done, friendship and family to those without and aid to those in need.
Father of all good and perfect gifts, we thank you for your continual blessings on your children. Help us on this day of thanksgiving to remember those in need. Lead us by the Holy Spirit to be your servants in the world. We pray this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
