"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:23-24 NIV
We have been watching some of the Olympic Games. It is exciting to watch the world's finest athletes compete. Whatever the event, there is great excitement as we track the progress of the competitors and root for our favorites. Unfortunately, out of all the participants in an event, only one athlete takes home the gold; all the others fall short. There is no shame in this; just participating in the Olympics is no small feat. However, they do not make it onto the top spot of the medal podium.
In our spiritual event, we've all fallen short -- there is no clear gold medal leader. Honestly, there are days when we are grabbing our legs with painful cramps, and we are barely limping along. But, through the salvation found in Jesus Christ, we all become gold medalists. He is our second wind, that boost of adrenalin we need to propel us forward, and the prize we win is better than the gold; it is priceless. For our trophy is the gift of eternal life with God, given freely by his grace.
God, we give thanks for your grace. We know we all sin and fall short, but it is your grace that offers us redemption. Not wanting to leave anyone behind, you freely give us what we humanly lack to attain your glory. Thank you for Jesus Christ, our Savior, our human example of righteousness, and the Holy Spirit that sustains us. Amen.
Blessings, Pastor Tim
