"Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action." 1 John 3:18 NRSV
It comes as no surprise to any of us that sometimes our actions are at odds with what we say. Sometimes this is good! For example, if we acted on the things we say in anger that would not be good. However, when it comes to those things we say in love it is another story. We are not only to talk about it but like the Nike, ad slogan says, “JUST DO IT!” John gives an example of someone with financial resources who in seeing a person in need fails to help. He asks the question, how can God's love be in them? Jesus is the perfect example, he not only preached love but in giving his own life for us demonstrated love in action. As his followers, we are called upon to do the same. We are not to only just talk about what it means to be a Christian, although that is necessary, more importantly, we are to demonstrate to the world why Christ lived and died.
God, we give you thanks for your love. Help us today to not only speak of your love but to demonstrate that love to all we come in contact with. Amen.
