Number One

“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God." - 1 Samuel 2:2 NIV

Following a sports team's win, you may hear the repeated chant, "We're number one!, We're number one!". To be number one is something much valued whether in sports, education (valedictorian), our careers (CEO). It is something many strive to be, yet others avoid. In honesty, we must confess, this idea is a human construct. The truth is while some may excel in one area, we are all made of flesh and blood, which sometimes experience success and other times failures.

God is the only Number One! There is no one like him, nothing to which he can be compared. He fulfills many roles and excels in them all, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. We have no fear he will ever relinquish his title; he is at the beginning and the end.

O God, our Number One, we give you praise for who you are. You are the orchestrator of all things and the ruler of our lives. Therefore, we come humbly before you, asking for your blessings this day, and that all we do glorify your holy name. Amen.
