Sow Generously

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2 Corinthians 9:6 NIV

For about a year, I've inherited a subscription to Farm Journal from our departed friend Alan. The articles contain information about when, how, and what to plant and keep livestock healthy. Most pieces are intended to help farmers achieve maximum yield. This makes sense; the purpose of farming is to grow things. Occasionally though, there are articles about not growing. Whether it's so, the government can regulate the grocery store's cost or control greenhouse gas emissions.

Like the farmer, it makes sense for us to aim for the highest yield in evangelism. The Bible guides us on what we should plant -- the true gospel, how we should plant -- with gentleness, love, and kindness, and when we should plant -- always. We need to sow generously, using every acre we are given, for there are many hungry people. The absolute worst thing we can do is not to plant at all—Satan delights in inaction; he wants people to starve.

God of sowing and harvest, thank you for the opportunity to be your farmers in your world. Please help us to sow generously and to save the starving. We pray this in the name of Jesus our Christ. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
