Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20:29 (NIV)
Read John 20:24-29
It's often challenging for us to believe in things we can't see because our senses heavily influence our understanding of the world. We rely on sight, touch, and other senses to confirm reality. However, many essential aspects of our lives are invisible yet undeniably real.
We can't see gravity but know it exists because it keeps us grounded. Without gravity, we would float around like astronauts in space. The effects of gravity are evident in everything from how objects fall to how planets orbit the sun.
Similarly, we can't see air but know it's there because we breathe it. Without air, we wouldn't be able to survive. Air is crucial for respiration, allowing our bodies to absorb oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.
These unseen forces are fundamental to our existence, much like faith. In John 20:29, Jesus says to Thomas, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." This verse highlights the challenge and blessing of faith—believing without seeing.
Thomas doubted Jesus' resurrection until he saw and touched Jesus' wounds. His struggle mirrors our own when we find it hard to believe in what we can't see. Yet, Jesus calls us to trust in Him even without physical proof.
We are called to trust God's presence and promises as we trust in gravity and air despite their invisibility. Faith involves believing in God's love, guidance, and salvation, even when we can't see Him directly.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the many ways You reveal Yourself to us, even when we cannot see You. Help us to trust in Your presence and promises, just as we trust in the unseen forces of gravity and air. Strengthen our faith, especially in times of doubt, and remind us of Your constant love and care. May we, like Thomas, believe fully in Your resurrection and the hope it brings. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
