When the World Shakes, Start Here

“Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.” — Isaiah 25:1 (NIV)

There are seasons when life feels like Isaiah 24 — everything shaking, everything uncertain, everything we leaned on suddenly unstable. And then Isaiah begins the next chapter with a simple, grounding confession: “Lord, you are my God.” It’s a pivot, but it’s also a homecoming.

To say those words is to take the first step back to center. It’s an act of humility, admitting that the things we thought we controlled, we don’t. The strength we thought we had, we didn’t. The future we thought we could predict, we couldn’t. And strangely, that jarring honesty becomes freedom.

It’s also an act of surrender. Not the clenched‑teeth kind, but the kind that happens in those “wordless groan” moments — the Romans 8:26 kind — when we finally stop resisting the One who has only ever wanted our good. It’s the quiet prayer of a heart that has been trying to steer its own life and has finally realized it doesn’t have to.

And it becomes an act of praise. Because once we stop pretending to be our own god, we can see the real God clearly. We look back and notice the faithfulness we missed in the moment. We see the “wonderful things” God was weaving long before we knew to ask. We recognize that the God who carried us then is carrying us now.

Maybe today begins with that same simple confession: “Lord, you are my God.” Not as a theological statement, but as a re‑centering. A return. A surrender. A remembering.

Lord, you are our God. We release the illusion that we are in control. We surrender the places where we’ve resisted your leading. Open our eyes to the faithfulness that has carried us this far. Root us again in your goodness, your presence, and your plans. Lead us in your way today. Amen.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Tim
